The City of San Gabriel will welcome the Year of the Rat at the 2020 San Gabriel Lunar New Year Festival on February 8, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.The Opening Ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. with a traditional lion and dragon dance. Elected officials and sponsors will also share their Lunar New Year blessings at that time.
A unique take on the ancient Lunar New Year tradition, the San Gabriel Lunar New Year Festival combines traditional performances and celebrations with contemporary musicians and entertainment in an experience unique to the region.
In response to concerns about the Wuhan coronavirus, San Gabriel Mayor Jason Pu said: “We take the health and safety of the public very seriously. At this time, we plan to continue with our San Gabriel Lunar New Year Festival on February 8 as scheduled. We are in close communication with the Department of Public Health and local health officials and are advised that the local risk of infection remains very low. We will remain in close contact with local and regional public health officials and will re-assess should the risk of infection locally change.”
This year’s festival will include a variety of Asian street foods, including Kai Kai dumplings, Seoul Street food, Tanota Takoyaki, Tian Jin BBQ, Norigami Tacos, Steam Bun Truck and much, much more. The festival will also feature San Gabriel’s Ogopogo Brewing, Sapporo USA, Choya Umeshu USA, the Boston Beer Company and Anchor Brewing. Local and regional artisans will also be housed in the festival’s marketplace, selling traditional and modern Asian goods.
The San Gabriel Lunar New Year Festival is presented by the City of San Gabriel, along with Jade Sponsors Hilton Los Angeles/San Gabriel and EDI Media, Kaiser Permanente, Athens Services, T-Mobile, Tawa Supermarkets, the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse, The Olson Co., the Citrus Pest & Disease Prevention Program, Citizens Business Bank, Rose Hills, Southern California Gas and the San Gabriel Valley Medical Center.
The San Gabriel Lunar New Year Festival will run from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on February 8, 2020 in the Mission District located at 320 South Mission Drive in San Gabriel.
