San Gabriel, it’s time to build a playground!

The City of San Gabriel is happy to announce that we are building a new playground at Smith Park with the assistance of the Asian Youth Center, The CarMax Foundation and KaBOOM! – but we need your help!

On March 14, 2019 we will build a great new place for kids to play at San Gabriel’s very own Smith Park in a single day. But first, we will kick off the project at Design Day on January 23 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Asian Youth Center. Here, San Gabriel community members will select our playground components based on designs from San Gabriel’s kids. This is your opportunity to design and shape a playground that will be enjoyed for generations to come.

If you’re interested, please mark your calendar to join us for Design Day. Here are the details:

  • When: January 23, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Where: Asian Youth Center located at 232 West Clary Avenue – translation services, child care
    and refreshments will be provided.
  • Who: Any adult resident who may be interested in helping build a park! We’re looking for volunteers who will be able to lead our project committees, including food, recruitment, construction, logistics, public relations and fundraising.

Once the design phase is completed, we’ll be holding our Build Day on March 14, 2019. Additional details about that event will be released soon.

This is a great way to give back to your community and a fun way to be part of a project that will construct an entire playground in one day. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at rperez@sgch.org or via phone at 626.308.2875
