San Gabriel Fire Department Remembers 9/11

The San Gabriel Fire Department held a ceremony at Fire Station 51 for the 17th Anniversary of September 11, 2001.  Along with other Verdugo Fire Stations, the Fire Department began the ceremony with the a single bagpipe, as public safety personnel marched behind.  The flag was raised and then lowered to half staff.  A moment of silence was held and the bells rang three sets of five tones to honor the 343 firefighters who perished.

The devastating tragedy killed nearly 3,000 innocent Americans at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and in Shanksville, PA.  During those attacks, 411 emergency workers who responded to the World Trade Center lost their lives.  This included: 343 New York City Firefighters, 37 Port Authority Police Officers, 23 New York City Police Officers, and 8 Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics.
