If you’ve followed the news recently, you might have noticed coverage regarding yesterday’s fire incident at the northeast corner of Valley Boulevard and New Avenue. For those who haven’t, here’s a brief summary of what happened:
- Location: The Valley and New Center strip mall, which includes seven businesses.
- Incident: The incident originally began as a first alarm assignment, eventually progressing to a third alarm fire. After an initial investigation, the area of origin was determined to be located in the center unit within the kitchen area. The fire eventually worked up and into the common attic of the strip mall, extending in both directions and spreading to all units. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
- Response: More than 20 units responded to the fire, including assistance from the Alhambra Fire Department, the Monterey Park Fire Department, the Pasadena Fire Department, the Arcadia Fire Department, the San Marino Fire Department, the Montebello Fire Department and Los Angeles County Fire. In addition, the Red Cross provided resources to all personnel on the scene. Property management and owners were contacted about the incident, and a temporary fence has been enacted around the property.
With the fire now extinguished, City officials will continue to investigate the incident to attempt to find a cause.
