Roadway construction underway at the Alhambra Wash Bridge Replacement Project

Here’s an update on the Del Mar Avenue/Alhambra Wash Bridge Replacement Project since our groundbreaking this past March: The new access ramp to the San Gabriel Square Shopping Center on West Bencamp Street (just west of Del Mar Avenue) has been completed. A temporary traffic signal has been installed at the intersection of Del Mar Avenue and Bencamp.

In addition, the driveway into the shopping center on Del Mar Avenue will be closed while the bridge is under construction. Passenger vehicle traffic (no trucks) will be able to enter and exit the shopping center at Bencamp.

The temporary traffic signal will provide for smoother traffic flow on Del Mar Avenue. Commercial trucks are required to enter and exit the shopping center at the driveway located on Abbot Avenue (just south of Valley Boulevard). Passenger vehicle traffic (no trucks) are also able to enter and exit the shopping center at Valley Boulevard (between Abbot Avenue and Manley Drive).

Roadway construction for the project is being completed at the intersection of Del Mar Avenue and Norwood Place, and that intersection will be reopened. Demolition of the existing west half of the bridge will begin in May 2018, and construction on that side of the bridge will take place from May to October 2018. Demolition and construction on the east half of the bridge will take place from May to October 2019. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by February 2020.

A special alert to pedestrians on Del Mar Avenue:
the sidewalk on the west side of Del Mar Avenue between Norwood Place and south of Bencamp Street is closed due to bridge construction. All pedestrians are required to use the sidewalk on the east side of the street. Crosswalks are located at the intersections of Del Mar Avenue and Marshall Street and of Del Mar Avenue and Valley Boulevard. Please do not walk in the roadway or in the work zone.

Please call the Public Works Department at 626.308.2825 if you have any questions or concerns about the project.
